Most of what I photograph at a family session is already happening before I lift the camera. The way your kids are with you when nobody's telling them what to do. My job is to notice it and stay out of the way. The session itself is the short part. The decisions before and after it are where I do most of the work.
It starts with a simple conversation. We'll talk through what you're thinking about, when you want to do it, and what would make this feel like you. Once your date is reserved, I'll walk you through everything that comes before it so the day itself feels easy and relaxed.
Sessions are short on direction and long on attention. I'll guide you when guiding helps and step back when stepping back is what makes the photo. Most of what I'm doing is watching for the moments between the moments. The look you give your partner when you think no one's looking. The way your kid leans into you without thinking about it. That's where the photos come from.
A photo is a Post-it note in time. The version of your kid right now won't be the version they are next year. The photo holds that version so you can come back to it. But a photo sitting in a folder on your phone collects digital dust. It doesn't get framed. It doesn't get handed down. So along with the gallery, I make it easy to order prints, albums, and wall art directly through the store — the kind of pieces you'll actually live with.
